tracking down Rhymney warhero's relatives Sgt Gwynfryn Jones
« on: Sunday 16 July 17 12:53 BST (UK) »
For my research to a Stirling bomber crashed in the area were I live(Lieshout in the Neterlands)) I would like to get in touch with the relatives of Sgt Flight Engineer Gwynfryn Jones who was 23 years of age when he died. He was the Son of William and Susan Jones, of Rhymney,Monmouthshire. For a memorial and or a booklet in the future in memory of this crew I would like to get in touch with his relatives.  Much help appreciated.
Cheers, Adrian van Zantvoort

This one really is a tough one with a surname like Jones!

Have managed to establish that his parents were William Jones and Susan Protheroe who married in 1902.   Good news is that Gwynfryn had a number of siblings but bad news is trying to follow them!

William and Susan had:

Edward Rees Jones bc.1903
Mary Ann Jones bc.1904
David Emlyn Jones born 12/8/1905
Agnes Jones born 24/6/1907
Susan Jones born 1909
Rachel Jones born 1912
Glenys Jones born 1915
William C. Jones born 11/3/1917
Gwynfryn Jones born Dec.qtr. 1919
Morwen Jones born 12/7/1922

Believe parents both died in the Rymney area - Susan in 1944, William in 1954.

In this instance, I would suggest that maybe it would be worthwhile for you to contact a newspaper for the area in the hope they will print an article detailing your request to find living family.   You have his siblings above and surely at least some must have stayed in the same area.

One possible newspaper I can find is:

Merthyr & Rhymney Valley Express
52 Glebeland Street
Merthyr Tydfil,
Mid Glamorgan.
CF47 8AT

However, I am not familiar with Welsh districts so others may be able to suggest another newspaper.

Think the newspaper suggestion might be a way forward, especially with the surname Jones, as Annette already suggested.  ;)

Freebmd shows that a Morwen Jones (youngest sister) married a Pippen in Bedwellty in 1944.  Freebmd also shows that there were 4 children born between 1944 and 1958 in Bedwellty area.  Googling the oldest 1958 son shows that he is living in New Tredegar with wife and one child.  That child is on facebook.  However googling also shows from the local Argus newspaper that he is a member of the Bargoed Sea Angler club.  Perhaps with a visit to their website you may be able to leave a message for him.  This is all presuming I have the correct Morwen but it looks quite good.  Ray
