Identity Card
« on: Friday 21 July 17 13:49 BST (UK) »
I have found my mothers identity card number starting CMUQ and dated 17.7.1943.

Can this number be used to search for more details about her.

Thanks for any advice or help.

I doubt very much that the number can be used to find more details about your mother.

I have just dug out my mother's identity bracelet and compared it with her entry on the 1939 register.  Her ID bracelet has OARJ - 176 - 3.  Looking on the 1939 shows that 176 is a schedule number for the address that she lived at and the 3 is her position in the household.

Upon her marriage there has been written the letters OAA and a date in 1948 which is when she married.  The NHS used the 1939 register to allocate numbers although these are usually on the right hand side of the 1939 register.  Occasionally some of these NHS numbers strayed on to the left hand side of the register.

At the bottom of the transcription for my mother's record is the below:-
RG101/5024E/012/29 Letter Code: OARJ

This suggests that OARJ identifies where the person was living.

I've just checked another relative who was living in the same city but has the letter code OATK.  That suggests that every road, street whatever had their own code letters.

The ID bracelet would have been used to identify anyone who was killed in a bombing raid or any other accident and their face was not recognisable.

Perhaps someone else may know more as I was born after WW2.

Thanks for that Stan, you learn something new every day.

Would you agree that the four letters that were on my mother's ID bracelet relate to the actual road/street whatever that the person lived in?
