Thomas & William sons of Eleanor Beech born in Shifnal
« on: Friday 21 July 17 16:45 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on my 4th Great Grandmother Eleanor Beech.
All I know is that she gave birth to sons Thomas & William at St Andrews in Shifnal, Shropshire on 22nd Oct 1783.
At the time of the birth Eleanor was a pauper and may not have been married.
Son William died in Nov 1783.

Don't know if this is relevant but there is a marriage for an Eleanor Beech to a John Brown on 28th May 1789 at Hinstock.

Both were of the parish of Hinstock.

The shortest route on today's maps between Shifnal and Hinstock is 14 miles.

This is six years after Eleanor's twins were born.

Hi Girl Guide,
Thanks for the information. I did see this record but wasn't sure if it was my Eleanor due to the distance and timescale. However, I will look into it further.
Thanks again.

As a matter of interest, how did you arrive back to Eleanor?  What line were you following to get back to her?  Maternal/paternal?

You state that she was your 4th Great granny which would imply that she had married somewhere along the way.

Hello
You're right that Eleanor wasn't married but there are a couple more children for her.
William  25.5.1789 Broseley
Robert and Joseph 11.3.1792 twins bapt 2.4.1792 Shifnal Joseph was buried 19.10.1829 at Shifnal.

The couple that look right as her parents are Joseph Beech and his two wives Eleanor buried 18.4.1848 and Catharine 1725-6.8.1775 of Lime kiln bank Shifnal.
He was buried 5.2.1789 Joseph Beech labourer.
There are no marriages i can find for Jos and his wives but the children at shifnal are as follows.

Mary 13.4.1748- 2.4.1833 (Sains Lane) with Eleanor -
Anne 2.8.1752/15.7.1752 with Catharine
William 10.6.1758/2.7.1758
Elizabeth 14.4.1763 bapt 17th
Sarah 26.11.1765/8.12.1765 daughter Helen 18.2.1801 bapt 22 and son Thomas 23.3.1794
William 2.7.1769

As you can see plenty of gaps for Eleanor.
(There is also a possible brother John and his wife Mary nee James married Newport 23.6.1770 bought back to Shifnal by settlement order 1782 with children Thomas,William 1774,Eleanor 1776,John 1779,Ann 1781 but obviously this Elanor is too young to be yours).

Hia GG, I received information from the SFHS concluding that my 3rd GG Father Thomas Beech was born in Shifnal on 22nd Oct 1783. The entry in the baptism register recorded his mother as 'Eleanor Beech, pauper'. Until now, this is all I knew about her.

Hia Ciderdrinker,
Thanks for the info. Please can I ask where it was sourced as I kept hitting brick walls firstly with Thomas and then with Eleanor ?
The removal order issue (Newport to shifnal) was exciting at first but, as you say, that Eleanor was too young.
Thanks again.

Ah I see now, you are descended from Eleanor's son Thomas then.

The removal order is from Shropshire Archives, the rest is from FindMyPast -it gives digital images of the parish records so there isn't anything extra on there.
