Harrison/Hollinshead Families
« on: Saturday 22 July 17 18:43 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I am looking for info on who is SARAH ANN HARRISON'S Mother.

Sarah Ann was born Harrison Abt Mar 1866, her father's name is Joseph Harrison born about 1817 and her mothers Maiden name is Hollinshead.

Sarah Ann married John Wood abt 1890 and they had a load of children my great grandmother being one of them Born Ada Jane Hollinshead 19 April 1904. Ada Jane married twice, first husband died his name was MADELY and her second husband JOSEPH GIBSON. Ada Jane died 1951.

Sarah Ann died 18th Feb 1930 at 44 peace street, which was the property owned by my family for a very long time.

I have sent for sarah Ann's BC and DC but still awaiting and wondered can anyone shed any light on this and why Sarah Ann and John decided to drop both their names for Sarah Anns mothers maiden name? Additionally I cannot find anything about JOHN WOOD's family

Thank you all in advance

According to Staffordshire BMD Joseph Harrison married Eliza "Holinshead" at Penkridge St Michael in 1841.The GRO Index gives them marrying in the Apr/May/Jun Quarter of 1841 in the Penkridge District of Staffordshire,Volume 17,Page 121.

You are somewhat confused in that Sarah Ann's Birth does indeed show in  the Wolstanton District. However all those born in Burslem show as born in the Wolstanton District.I have many such Births in my Tree.

For the marriage in 1841, the spelling is with a single L , as Holinshead.

Confusion over birthplace may be explained by the fact that both the Harrison and Holinshead families were "boatmen" according to the marriage entry at Penkridge on 8 June 1841 for Joseph and Eliza.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
