tracing place of Marriage of Arthur Thorpe to Lucy Barratt 1908
« on: Tuesday 25 July 17 00:36 BST (UK) »
Lucy Barratt was bought up in Pinxton Notts, born 14th April 1888.......she married my grandfather Arthur Thorpe from Hucknall born 15th December 1886/87. ?.......
Think it was Whit Monday 1908 when they wed......think maybe they married in Alfreton, but not sure......Lucy was in Service in South Normanton at one time, cannot remember what job Grandfather did, but I think he was Gardener in Service at one time ......... Lucy's father was Herbert Barratt, her mother was Sarah Barratt - Cannot remember my grandfather's parent's names or where they came from, though I think it may have been Hucknall Notts .......I am tracing the marriage, can anyone help please?

Keyboard 86 -  I do believe this is them, as on checking, Whit Monday was on June 8th that year........Do not know why they were in Worksop though, Lucy my grandmother was from Pinxton and was in Service at South Normanton at one time, maybe Worksop is where granddad Arthur was living at the time, but I thought he came from Hucknall Notts......Cannot remember anything about his family whereabouts except that he was a younger son of a very large family.........Many thanks for your help, Libralady (Lynn)....

Possible baptism
Hucknall Torkard
3 Jan 1882 Arthur Frederick Thorpe, son of Benjamin and Sarah Adelaide father a tailor
The couple also baptised  Samuel Cartledge, Horace William and Ernest all on the same day.

It appears this Arthur Frederick was born in 1874, he is aged 6 on the 1881 census. So Possibly too old to be yours.

1891 Hucknall, there is a Joseph and Eliza Thorpe with a 4 year old son Arthur.

Larkspur - Many thanks.....I did hear that my grandparent's started their married life in Clowne, yet the first marriage certificate as stated by Keyboard888, said Worksop, are they the same place? - I know they were Baptist people, but do not know much about grandfather Arthur Thorpe's family, except I understood he came from Hucknall Torkard and was born December 15th 1886'87 - his family were never talked about much,  ........ but what was he doing in Worksop, Clowne, was it his job, I wonder ? - I would have thought that they would have been married nearer to their families....... thanks for the find, Libralady  (Lynn)...

Larkspur- Thanks....I think maybe his parent's were Joseph and Eliza as Grandfather named one of his son's Joseph, but I really cannot remember anything about them......I know he was not born in 1874 as he died around 1975/76 aged almost 90.......Libralady..
