Hi Lady C,
as agreed in your personal message, I will post here. It is best so that others can chip in with any observations or information.
It would help if you posted the information re the Army Officer you mention as the info I have found has no mention.
You say the family lived in Aston Cross parish. I have assumed this to be Aston, Ashchurch, Gloucestershire -is that what you mean? Otherwise none of this applies.

There are several Thomas Drinkwaters around.
Drinkwater LunnIn 1871 census indexes on one site, Thomas and family are listed as Drinkwater but someone has amended this to Drinkwater Lunn. The actual form shows Drinkwater.
The surname Drinkwater- Lunn seems to be used later.
So here we are:
Thomas Lunn baptised Ashchurch, Gloucestershire 5th November 1820 aged 2 yrs
Mother: Hannah Lunn spinster. address Newtown
John Lunn - Ashchurch 20 April 1814 mother Hannah address Newtown.
There are other baptisms for Anne, Elizabeth and Mary to Hannah, spinster address Pamington (I think that is what it says) but these were all baptised together in 1834 and no dates of birth given so not sure if this is the same family.
Marriage 20th April 1843
Thomas Lunn, Tailor, married Martha Cresswell, Ashchurch
children to this couple were baptised with Drinkwater as part of their first name and Lunn as their surname.
