McDougall Family Cucumber Hall, Hertfordshire
« on: Monday 31 July 17 21:04 BST (UK) »
My Gt Gt Grandfather, Alexander McDougall, died at Cucumber Hall Farm, Hatfield, on April 16 1926, aged about 91, after a lifetime on the islands of Mull and Muck, Inner Hebridees. The death was registered by his son, David, also of Cucumber Farm. They were both in Gallanach, Muck, in the 1911 census. Can anyone point me to where I might find information on when they travelled to Hatfield, what work David might have had there, and what happened to David McDougall (or MacDougall) born c1886, after his father died. According to notes left by my late father his aunt used to visit David in Hatfield. I believe David's wife may have been called Martha?

What year was David born?  to give an idea of when he may have married

You could have a look for him on the 1939 register and check out his occupation there.

I believe he was born around 1886, he was 25 and single in the 1911 census.
I have tried the 1939 register, no success as yet.

I wonder if his father left a will - that might give some information about David and his family.

Yes, I have searched via Ancestry.co.uk for Wills and Probate in England and Scotland, no result.
I have a note left by my late father that David died in 1942, but no proof or reference to where he got that information.

Yes, they were at Cucumber Farm in Essendon, Herts. Cannot trace them after 1926 though.
