Possible Father for William 1801;

1851 Census
Millbrook, Bedfordshire
William Pepper, 85, Head, Mar, Ag Lab-pauper, born Holington
Sarah Pepper, 73, Wife, Mar, Lace Maker-pauper, born Lidlington

1841 Census
Millbrook
William Pepper, 76
Sarah Pepper, 66
Next door;
Edward Beal, 40
Matha Beal, 35
Solomand Beal, 15
Martha Beal, 3

And Sarah a second Wife;
Marriage;
9 February 1829, Millbrook, William PEPPER to Sarah BEAL

I cant find a Holington iin Beds may be Harlington for Williams pob.

Re. the 1829 marriage, William was a widower and Sarah a spinster. The witnesses were Sarah Roffe and Edward Roffe. Edward was a witness of numerous marriages, so presumably the parish clerk (and likely husband of Hannah). Sarah was a witness to 2 other marriages and in both cases either the bride or groom were either a Roffe or Beal.

Re. Harlington baptisms, there are a couple of possibilities...

Baptisms - Harlington

04 Aug 1765
Wm Peper, son of Thos & Ann
[Notes: Pepper in BT]

30 Mar 1766
Wm Pedder, son of Hen & Eliz
[Notes: Pepper in BT]

There are numerous Pedders about so it may take a bit of research to figure out whether the parish register or BT is correct.

Edit: Corrected father's name of Wm Pedder. 'Han' to 'Hen'

Thanks for all that cuffie81 :)

I had forgotten to add that the 1829 had William as a Widower.
Also that Pepper and Pedder seem to be interchangable.

So more questions than answers.
I will have a good look over this all later.

Thanks for all this information. I had no idea that William Pepper was such a common name.

As to his parents, I have based this purely off census records and information relating to his death, which made an 1801 birth more likely than a 1799 one.
