I've just found the marriage on Anc**

It reveals that Henry was a laundryman at the time of his marriage.  His father is also called Henry William Marshall and his occupation is labourer.

Caroline's father is Thomas Inkerman Gambier and his occupation is signalman

Witnesses Frederick William Gambier and Emma Overton.

Henry says he is 28 which gives a birth year of 1877/78.

Caroline Francis is living at 18 Spring Vale Terr 1901 with her father Tomas, occ railwayman, this is the same address as on her marriage records, no sign yet of Henry Marshall

This might be way out, but have you considered he might have been born 1872 in the Camberwell district, MMN Lamb

My grandfather ( Henry William Marshall) was married to Caroline Francies Gambier in 1904on the certificate it states his was born in Peckham in 1876 and his father was Henry William Marshall
