Gardner Mounsey marriage early 1850s
« on: Wednesday 02 August 17 17:58 BST (UK) »
I have James Gardner (born 1827/8 Morecambe) marrying an Isabella Mounsey (born abt 1829 Whithaven) around this period but cannot find any record of their marriage. I have them both in the 1851 census recorded as single (James at home in Morecambe, Isabella working in Maryport) Their first child Richard was registered D Q 1853 in Cockermouth MMN Mounsey.
James was a fisherman and sailor, the family based themselves in various ports on the Cumbrian/ Lancashire Coast and even up into Annan, Scotland so a marriage could have taken place in a fairly large area. An older brother married at Gretna for instance.
Any help appreciated :)
PS Jame's father was Richard, a fisherman. I believe Isabellas father was Edward

In view of what you say re: Gretna etc - have you checked Scotlands People?

From FamilySearch, the Isabella who married in Lancaster in 1851 had father George, not Edward.

Thanks for the replies, I have checked Scotlands people with no joy. The Isabella Mounsey Lancaster 1851 married James Threlfall. I might follow that one up though, that Isabella had a shipwright for a father, maybe she was widowed soon after marriage, if nothing else I could rule her out :)

Just following this up as I have recently been in contact with one of James Gardner's descendants who sent me images of the family bible. James and Isabella Mounsey married on 10th June 1852.  ;D I still don't know exactly where but their first son was born in Maryport in 1853 so I'm assuming somewhere in that area
