Jen-B ....I am exploring it more fully as it seems to be at the back of my mind somewhere that the younger children were left with their dad as their mum left them for another man.....it is also stated in the 1911 census that she was living at Greasley Top as a Houskeeper aged 48 with her 18 year old son William and a Boarder, Gervase Jowson, farm hand, aged 64........The older children would have left by then as my grandmother, Lucy, was the eldest and was born 1888 and married to my granddad in 1908......thanks for your help, libralady

I'm not sure about the Henry in 1911 as the only one I can see born right time and near enough the right place is this one. However, the mother is wrong.

never heard anything about Herbert and Sarah living in the Meadows, heard a story of Sarah living on Victoria Street in Eastwood next door to the author D H Lawrence at some time........

No evidence census wise on Lawrence Family or Barratt's to support this.

He might have been born there in 1885 but was elsewhere by 1891, the Barratt's were in Alfreton.

Henry was registerd as Harry mmmn Cockayne, June 1898 Mansfield, 7b 79

The given name Harry ties up with the Harry I found as an 'adopted son'  :-\

It's just a thought, but if there is someone else in the family albeit from a different branch with a tree online at Ancestry, it might be worthwhile making contact to see if she has any suggestions for you from her family's perspective.

Different stories may have been passed down to her.
