Cardno Family in Aberdeenshire
« on: Thursday 10 August 17 10:55 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the connection between two of my father's sisters and the Cardno family from, I believe, Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire.
My aunts were named Melita Victoria Cardno Moore b.1903 and Stella Dagmar Cardno Moore b.1908. Their mother, my grandmother, was Christina Fraser Grieve b.1880.
I have discovered that an Alexander Cardno married Ann Smith in Boghead, Pitsligo on 25 Nov.1858.
They had 13 children among whom were Melita Victoria Cardno and Stella Dagmar Cardno.
I recall that, in the late '50s and early '60s, my two aunts would holiday each year with relatives in Aberdeenshire and I believe they were farmers but I have no further information as to the connection.
Can anyone help?

An online source has Alexander's parents as John Smith and Harriet FRASER.

So, if this is correct the connection is to the girls' mother.

Who were the parents of Christina Fraser Grieve and where was she born?

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Jim, my grandfather was Thomas Henry Moore who married Christina Fraser Grieve. I believe the connection will be through her.

Jamjar, One unconfirmed source has my grandmother's parents as Thomas Grieve and Christina Clark.

Rosie, I believe everything you have posted is correct. I am awaiting a copy of Christina Fraser Grieve's birth certificate to confirm her parents and will post what I discover.

Thanks again,
Wellywood

There is only one Christina Clark on the Scotland 1851, Fraserburgh:

CLARK CHRISTINA age 2 196/ 2/ 18 Fraserburgh Aberdeen

CLARK JANE age 31 196/ 2/ 18 Fraserburgh Aberdeen

They are the only two with that Ref.no.

Think I have found Christian Clark

1851 census Broad street Fraserburgh
Christian Fraser age 36 born England {dress maker }
Maria Fraser age 29 born England abt 1822
Ann Thomson born about 1842 niece
Christian Clark age 3 born Fraserburgh

1861 census 15 Broad Street Fraserburgh
Maria Thomson age 37 born England (milliner )
Ann Thomson age 19 ( mother Maria )
Christian Clarke 13 born Fraserburgh ( mother Maria )
Christian Fraser age 44 born England ( sister )

Looks like this Ann Thomson married a Andrew Freeman 1868
Then married a George Willis 1885 Sunderland

1891 Census Blue Bill Gd Monkwearmouth Durham
George Wilis age 45 Publican
Ann Willis age 46 born Scotland
Christina Grieves age 11 born sunderland ( neice )

By 1891 the mother of Christina Grieves is married to  James Rogers

Probate record for Ann Willis of Ash Tree House West Baldon Durham died 1929 and mentions a Ann Willis Moore

Gro Record Ann Willis Moore born 1902 South Shields mothers maiden name Grieves
