It means that her spouse, her husband,  John was in jail when she was admitted to the workhouse and the children were in the homes.

Sorry i realized after i posted going through everything. Trying to find a death of john now. He went to prison for 14 days of hard labour in 1893. Jane was widowed in 1901 living in Ashton under lyne. Cant find a death of him yet. Think found a possible death for jane 1903. Nothing for John yet.

Yes that looks like Jane. Unfortunately her burial is not in the online Tameside burial records.
I can't see a likely death for John. I suppose he could be living any place if they split up.

Thank you everyone its coming together now. Still cant find a death for john curran the father? Last census he was on 1891. Then 1901 census Jane on with children Ashton under lyne? Then found a death for Jane i think will have to chase up burial records to see if its her 1903. Wonder how and why they ended up in Ashton u Lyne. ???

The marriage posted by willsy shows Frances Jane's father as James, a Hatter.

1861 331/30/31 shows him to be born Ashton under Lyne with wife Barbara. The family are in Southwark.

There are pre 1861 Workhouse records for Barbara and the children and later ones for Barbara- all Southwark and Barbara dies in Southwark in 1875.

James is in Manchester in 1871 with a new wife.
1881 he is in the workhouse in Bury.
1891 he is in the workhouse in Stockport and dies a few years later.

I don't think so. That one is probably the one in Crumpsall workhouse. 1901 shows two Johns with similar years of birth in Manchester but neither have the right occupation or birthplace.
