Thank you all for the extra comments.  Such a shame that I was in Edinburgh last year at the Tattoo and could have found the plot for myself.  I shall have to make another trip!

Interesting post. 
I wonder if one of you kind people would let me have the phone number you used for Mt Vernon cemetery.  Seems you got a good bit of help.   
I’m trying to locate lair numbers and a cemetery map, if it’s available, for some relatives who are buried at Mt Vernon. 
I looked up the number online, and have been phoning, but no answer.  Maybe I have an out of date number.

I do not have a record of the tele number I used, but I must have got it from their website -          0131 664 3064. There is an article on Google which says that the cemetery was closed temporarily at the end of September as a result of storm damage.  It appears to have reopened so maybe worth another try?  I remember that I phoned soon after 9am.  Good luck.
