Burial Look Up in Maidenhead Berkshire Please

Burial lookups please, Maidenhead 1960

Hi All, I'm looking for the burial place of the following person:

I have a copy of his death certificate which states:

Alfred Edward RILEY  died 27 Feb  1960, aged 52

He died at home at  9, High St, Maidenhead

National Death Register  is Maidenhead 6a 40

I have contacted the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead offices, Grave Search Information Request but they have no record of him at all!

Does anyone know where they might have been buried?

Any information will be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

JCD

Hi

Welcome to rootschat

Have you considered that he may have been cremated  :-\  I think Slough would probably be the nearest crematorium

Slough Crematorium didn't open until 1963  - you'd have to go further afield for a cremation (Reading or, perhaps, somewhere in West London).

Have you considered burial in a churchyard?  Is it possible that he was buried well away from where he died?

The address you give is almost exactly opposite the entrance to St. Mary's, now known as the borough church, but it has never had a churchyard.  It was originally part of St. Luke's parish, but at this date, burial was more likely in a municipal cemetery.  If RBWM have no record, then cremation is more likely.

Hi Nell
Thank you for the information. I've contacted the local crematoria within 20 miles of Maidenhead but they have no record, so it certainly is a mystery!
regards
John

Probate 20 June 1960, Oxford, to Rose Riley, widow.
Only marriage I can see of an Alfred E Riley to a Rose was in Essex SW in 1950. It looks as though they had already been living as man and wife? If so, a possible daughter married in Windsor not long after Alfred's death (but we do not post here about potentially living people)
Maybe you could get Alfred's will, and also find out what happened to his wife? You never know, it may help.
Good luck!
John
