Winterbotham - Peet
« on: Monday 01 August 05 14:42 BST (UK) »
In my family tree I have a Florence Louisa Winterbotham Peet b 1880.  Whilst seraching for connections I have found a lot of Peet's who possibly have Winterbotham or Winterbottom as one of their middle names.

Such as Anne W Peet
Gertrude A W Peet etc

Was wondering if anyone can shed a light as to why Winterbotham is connected with the Peets and is used as a middle name?

Many thanks
Steve

Hi Steve

I have found it usually is a females maiden name further back in the tree. Could this marriage be yours if so it may explain where it came from.

George Peet + Mary Winterbotham Nottm St Mary 19/7/1821

This looks hopeful as my family of Peet's are from Newark and Nottingham.  Though I can't manage to establish a direct link back just now, but will keep digging and aiming towards it.

Many thanks Jane

Steve

Just to add to the muddle the groom I gave you was already a Winterbottom

George Winterbotham Peet + Ann Raynor   N-M 14/7/1794

George Winterbottom Peet + Mary Winterbotham   N-M  19/7/1821

George Winterbotham Peet + Elizabeth Fairholm  N-M  5/12/1826

The spellings are as given.

There are some entries with Westmoreland as a middle name- equally strange
