Toll Keepers Campsie

Can anyone tell me how to find out about toll houses and toll keepers in Campsie.  I have an ancester (John McDonald) who is listed as a tollkeeper in 1857.

Hi Cleo,

depending on where your ancestor lived the only tolls I can think of were at Allander Toll or more probably Kirkintilloch toll house (building still exists!) - do you have an address for your ancestor at this time?.  Of course there may be more toll roads/houses in the area at that time. If I find anymore I'll get back to you.

good luck

Duncan

Duncan, do you know of Blane Toll in or near Killearn? I have wondered if there is any connection between Toll House in Killearn and Blane Toll.

thanks,

Lindsay
