I am looking for this family on the 1851 and 1871 censuses.
1861 Wales Census
Abersychan, Trevethin, Monmouthshire, Wales
Varteg Hill
John Williams, head, 37, coal miner, born Shropshire
Elizabeth Williams, wife, 34, born Dowlais, Glamorgan
John Williams, son, 14, coal miner, Trevethin, Monmouth
Jethro Williams, son, 8, scholar, Trevethin, Monmouth
William Williams, son, 8 months, Trevethin, Monmouth
The wife Elizabeth maiden name might be Waine (see the family above them on the 1861 census record. Her parents might be William Wayne & Mary James, and are listed on the 1851 census in Abersychan). If so, perhaps they were married Jul-Sep 1853, in Pontypool District, Monmouthshire, (maybe John Williams & Elizabeth Wine), and it would appear that John had a previous marriage.
There are two Jethro Williams possibilities listed on the birth index:
One born Apr-Jun 1853, Pontypool District, mother's maiden name Smith.
One born Jan-Mar 1854, Pontypool District, mother's maiden name Wynn.
One of these died: Jethro Williams died Oct-Dec 1854, Pontypool District.
I am hoping the father John Williams might be my great-great grandmother's brother. Here is my former query about my great-great grandmother Mary Ann William's family:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=651332.msg4977567#msg4977567I have found a Jethro/Jefferson Williams, born cal 1853, Wales, that immigrated to Illinois, USA, but I am not sure if it is him. If he was the one that arrived in 1873 in New York City, then it appears he came by himself. I have traced this possible Jethro a bit.
