Huguenot roots with the surnames Perrin & Thomerope
« on: Sunday 27 August 17 19:41 BST (UK) »
Hello all.

Have come to a bit of a dead end so was hoping one of you clever people might be able to steer me in the right direction!

I'm after some information re Huguenot marriages: did they tend to marry their own? My 6xG grandfather Jacob Thomarope permitted his 17 year old daughter Ann to marry 26 year old Thomas Perrin in 1771 in St Mary-le-Bone church, London. She was very young so I was wondering whether there's a likelihood Jacob knew the Perrin family and therefore entrusted his daughter to him. Speculative, yes, somewhat - hence why I was wondering how tight-knit they were as a community, especially considering the era.

My steer for this was that I found a Huguenot Society tract online which mentions Jacob as being an 'active' Huguenot in the Marylebone area.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.

PS Any info on the surname 'Thomerope' would be helpful too as there's evidently very little resource online to even point me in the direction of where it originates. Doesn't sound particularly French to me...

I realize this is a different country but, in commenting on the Huguenot ancestry of Paul Revere, his biographer David Hackett Fisher noted that 88% of the Huguenot marriages in Boston, Massachusetts before 1750 were to Anglo spouses.  And that is the case of my own Huguenot ancestor who married in Boston in 1715.
