I have a puzzling marriage from familysearch that I am trying to unravel and wouold appreciate some help. Ohio Co marriages 1800-1958 show a Nigmy Thomas age 21 born in Syria whomarried William Abraham 20 Jan 1907 Mahoning Co, Ohio. Her father shown as Thomas Hamnelt and mother shown as Garlia Gabriel.
I can find nothing else re these people other than the marriage.

Added  The son marriage record states mother as Anna Hammond.

This doesn't help much, but there was a William Abraham [born 1859 in Asyria] in the 1900 census in Belmont, Ohio.  Maybe the grandfather of your William Abraham?  And he was living with a bunch of other Syrians surnamed Thomas [but no Nigmy].  They were all peddlers

As it happens, I have someone in my tree who married a Syrian-born peddler in about the same time period.  His surname was John.  And when I started trying to trace him, I found that almost all of the Syrian immigrants were peddlers and had surnames that were male Christian names.  I presume that they adopted English names when they immigrated and maybe they were using their father's first name as their new surname.

Thanks Erato
My relative William Abraham Jr living in 1940 Detroit with mother Anna. Living in 1930 Detroit with parents William and Anna. In 1920 William and Anna are Lansing. I couldn't figure out whether there may have been a second marriage or a serious name change

I'd guess that it was a major name change to conform with American customs.
