Darlington baptism 1782
« on: Wednesday 30 August 17 07:18 BST (UK) »
I've found a baptism for Jane Wake in Darlington in 1782 in the Durham Online Index but I can't find the same entry in the IGI or FreeReg. Is this the only place it would be available?

ADD I entered father George and mother Jane and the record still came up, so at least I'm further along :-)

Just to say that the records on Durham Records Online are organised by district -your baptism could be from any of the parishes in that district. The baptisms for Darlington St Cuthbert on the Bts only give father's name in 1782 and so it would appear that you can rule that one out. (You can work out  which parishes are covered by Darlington District from the DRO homepage "What we Offer").

Heighington St. Michael 29 Dec 1782 Jane Wake d/o George and Jane Wake.

The BT's for Heighington do not include parental name.  Page 42 of 182.

There are quite a few siblings baptised all at Heighington and several burials.

Burials:

George Wake, age 70, of Heighington, 20 Apr 1816, a carrier
Jane Wake, age 66, 26 Oct 1817 of Heighington, widow of George Wake, carrier

Unfortunately none during the Barrington era that might give more information.

Janis, thanks so much for this info and including the deaths of the parents, which hopefully will let me connect them to the George and Jane Wake who married in Middleton Tyas, Yorkshire, in 1774.

It's a pity only the BTs are online now at FamilySearch. I'm sure I have a memory of many Durham registers being online years ago ...

My family started out in Middleton Tyas only they lived off and on in Norton.

Do you want the other Wake's in Heighington?  There are a total of 9 children baptisms to George and Jane, Quite a few marriages of those children, several burials many early 1700's

For most of the parish records this family lived mostly in Redworth if that abode comes up in your research.

Thanks Janis, that would be wonderful, but only if it's not too much trouble. Thanks also for the Redworth connection - I'm learning a lot about English geography :-)
