However, how do we know that the John captured in the census records was the one born to Stephen and Sarah?

He gives a birthplace of Brampton in censuses which is where John the son of Stephen was baptised, and the age is right. If you check the marriage entry it might give more information eg witnesses.

Bedfordshire Boy - where can I check the marriage entry? I assume it isn't online. Would I need to visit the Huntingdonshire archives?

I can't see that Buckden parish register has been filmed by the LDS, so, yes, either a trip to Huntingdon Archives or use their reasonably priced research service

I'm afraid that there are still a few gaps:

1. I'm still not clear whether Elizabeth FAVEL (b 1792 Brampton) is a child of Stephen and Sarah.
2. I believe that John married Ann Gaunt in 1825. But who is the John who married Ann MAILE in 1828?
3. Where was John buried?
4. What happened to Mary FAVEL? I still have no idea what happened to her after her baptism in Dec 1801. Did she marry? When and where did she die? Where was she buried?

If anyone can shed some light on any of the above, I would be very grateful, as I am for the information already found.

The lack of Huntingdonshire records online makes it very difficult for me to do research, which is why I have to resort to asking for help on forums. As for what records I possess, the answer is very little apart from what has already surfaced on this forum. The only family member I have any other information on is Frances, my 3 GGM. And even there, I have some important elements missing, such as her second marriage to Thomas Britten. Her first husband, James Gilbert, died in 1845. In 1851, she was a widow living in Southwark. Sometime between the census and 1855, she married Thomas BRITAIN, who died in Jun 1855. Frances herself appears in the 1861 census as Frances BRITTON, a widow, living in Southwark. She dies in Feb 1871, just before the 1871 census.
