Bohannan/Gleave Lower Thurlow Street Liverpool 1851
« on: Wednesday 06 September 17 12:43 BST (UK) »
I am back to my Bohannan search again and wondering after all these years if anyone can give me any more pointers?
I have a birth cert for Martha Bohannan mother Catherine Bohannan formerly Gleave, father James occc Shoemaker.
Martha was born in August 1848 at 14 Cuerdon Street Liverpool and registered in Sept 1848 as living at 3 Lower Thurlow Street liverpool.  I cant find this at all in 1851 census as I cant get into any road indexes ( beleieve Ancestry doesnt do them :(
In the last two days I have realised that the family who live next door in the terribly messed up 1861 census in York Street were Martha is 14 seems to be her elder sister Sarah Ellen who is married to an Edward Graham.
Found Marriages at St Peters for both a Caroline Bohannan and Sarah Ellen, father James Shoemaker (same on Marthas B cert and M cert) from Lancs Parish Clerk project and also a death/burial of James Bohannan Lower Thurlow St  May 1851 with his age at death as 51.
So a lot of info but just not finding any marriage of Catherine Gleave and James Bohannan and nowhere to start as to were they may have been born because of lack of census info.
Also oddly enough came across this in the Roots archives yesterday :
I am searching for the Liverpool family of a young girl, MARIA BOHANNAN
(could be spelt BOHANAN, BOHANNON etc), who was transported for stealing in
1837 to Hobart, Australia (known as Van Dieman's Land then) for 7 years.

When she was tried in Liverpool (1837) she was16 and hence was born around
1821. Her death certificate indicates that she was born in Liverpool and
that her father, James Bohannan was a shoemaker.
This was from someone back in 2000!

So if there are any detectives out there who may like a puzzle!

He seemed very good at killing wives off :) I think that the occupation of shoemaker seemed to follow him, so its probably more to go on his occupation.   I am going to have to look up who was at Cuerdon  St in 1851 ( any chance of a folio number ?) see if I can trace any family members there.  I am just wondering if the lack of evidence for any of the family being in Lower Thurlow St in 1851 (his burial records for May that year say abode Lower Thurlow St) just mean the invigilator was doing a very good job?

And Edward Graham is James son in law he married Sarah Ellen so the family are most defiantly around but he seems to avoid the census!  Something confuses me though I have a copy of his daughter Martha's Marriage cert and he was never marked as deceased yet she married in 1866???

I cant find Caroline/Eliza under new married names in 1861 Census ::)

I have never been able to use page/folio no's to find Census!

I did manage to track the 1861 Census where Anc has indexed Catherine as Harriet.

Fathers are often not noted as deceased on M/C's, it depends whether the question is asked by the Vicar/Priest etc.
(this has come up on Rootschat often)
