Harleychick can you confirm or provide us with any answers to the questions asked?

Hopefully we may then be able to help you further with your 4x Grandfather George Wynne  :)

Thanks folks.
To answer questions.
I don't know if George was widowed  or his wife's name unfortunately..this is something i hope to find out.
I cant find George or William on the 1841 census either.George was an agri. labourer.Williams wife was Emma Lloyd born 1836 He married Emma in 1856 at St.Peters church Waverton listed as batchelor ..labourer and she as Servant. Both are illiterate. As the Wynne's worked on the Hatton Hall estate she probably worked in the big house.Emma appears on the 1861/71/81/91 census .living in 1891 only a few doors down from where I was born in Rochdale. The George Wynne dying in 1863 is possibly Williams son.I am waiting for the death cert..sorry my mistake.

Who were the witnesses to the wedding.  Presumably that is where the information that his father is George occ Labourer comes from.

The only christening I have come across is for a
William Wynne born c 1834 mother Anne Wynne

this one is much earlier 1831 his mother Margaret Wynne
both transcripts on Cheshire, England, Select Bishop's Transcripts, 1576-1933 but none showing with a father named George  ???

Is it possible he made his father’s name up?

If he is the William Wynne with mother Anne perhaps she married before 1841 and they are on the census under a different surname  :-\

Where did you get the birth date for George?

This is the nearest  bp. I could find for c1810 in Cheshire if this is where he may have been born

Geo . Wynne
Baptism 26 Nov 1809 Coddington, Cheshire, England
Mother:   Deborah Wynne

And it looks as if he is married to Elizabeth and they are on 1861 census

I was told many years ago by a family member before I got very far with my interest in family history. She told me Williams father was a George.Lady is no longer alive. She was born in 1881 and knew a lot about her side of the family history. Also George is named on Williams marriage cert.
I am wondering now whether William could have been illigitimate and is the William Wynne who,s mother in Anne Wynne and as surmised he made up a name for his father.Unfortunately William was born just before national  records came in so it looks like Malpas parish records may hold the answer if I can find which church he was christened .
Add on..Found a William Wynne son of Anne baptised 1836 at Whitchurch Parish
