RCMP personnel records - suggestions please
« on: Sunday 10 September 17 11:41 BST (UK) »
I am on the trail of a distant cousin, Ainslie Kenneth Bond who lived 1911-1998.  A Google search took me to a site which dealt with postal/stampcollecting interests, where he was mentioned as having been a corporal in the RCMP.  I found a record of his burial at Kamloops, British Columbia, in February 1998, and would like to know more of his life, and of his father's in BC.  His father was Cecil Henry Bond, born in Norfolk, England in 1878 and left for Canada around 1905.

Anything about these two and their families would be of great interest.

Ainslie

 - marriage of their daughter in 1937

 - death of Cecil in 1955

A brother, John Basil Bond, sadly died in WWII, there is a memorial to him here:

 - he seems to have gone by "Ken" as well
Sounds like an all-round good guy!

From findagrave, his wife was Doris Lillian Schell (1915-1987)

I believe this would be a reference to them:

Cpl. Ken Bond and wife Dot with first child Diane - 1943
also a reference to A.K. Bond at a RCMP Christmas dinner in 1941

Diane passed away in 2015, her obituary names several living relatives who you could try and get into contact with:

All that, in just an hour!  Thank you both very much for your trouble and information.  It will take me at least as long as that to chase up all the leads you have provided.

There is a Facebook "blog" called Unofficial: RCMP History which posts RCMP tidbits on the month/day they occurred regardless of year.  On 22 May 2015 they posted (not sure why they are a day out!):

On this May 21st...
1923 - Prohibition comes into effect in Prince Edward Island.
1937 - Commendation awarded to #12705 Constable Ainsile Kenneth Bond for his investigation of a theft, at Springdale, Sask.
Bond joined the Force in 1935 and retired in 1963 as a Sergeant.

Jorose kindly found you the obit for his daughter Diane; the same obituary appears on another site that indicates her first names were Beverly Diane (just mentioning that in case it matters to your record keeping).
