Brighton Registry Office 1924
« on: Monday 11 September 17 11:31 BST (UK) »
Good morning.

I have just received my Grandparent's Marriage Certificate. They married at Brighton Registry Office in March 1924. Where was the Registry Office back in the 1920's?

I am a bit puzzled as although she was 18 my Grandmother doesn't have a profession. Her daughter was born about 5 weeks later. Could that perhaps be why? She was living at 241 Preston Drove so I feel she must have been a servant?

Many thank for any thoughts.

When my grandma married in 1921 her occupation was shown; when her daughter married for the first time in 1943 no occupation shown.  When her daughter married again, after being widowed, in 1948 her occupation was shown.

No idea why!  ???

Odd.

My Grandmother Winifred Kate Creighton was a servant to my knowledge. The Certificate also says that her father Robert George Charles Creighton was deceased whereas I have his death in 1959.
I believe that Winifred's parents, Robert and Amy Maud Creighton were divorced or there had at least been a Court case as he abused the children. I have searched but never found any record of the court case.

Best wishes
