Hi
Think the birth year of 1816 which appears on submitted trees is because some people do not
Understand that adult ages were rounded down in the 1841 Census.
This is the 1841 census - Chaplery of Belper. HO 107. Piece 180 Book 7
Common Side Belper
Milward Elizabeth. 25. (So born abt 1816)
Richard 7
Dorothy 6
William 4
Thomas. 18 months
Thomas the husband is not at home.
On some census Thomas Snr is transcribed as being born Ripley Derbyshire, however if you
Look at the census image it is Shipley Derbyshire.
Elizabeth is quite consistant giving birth 1811/12 in Heage
I think this may be her Bpt from Ancestry
2nd April 1810
Elizabeth Swindall dau of Wm Swindall, as always caution is required as there are a number of
William Swindalls, in Belper.
Ancestry has this listed as Belper St Peter this is incorrect the Bpt was at St John’s Belper.
The church St Peters foundation stone laid 1822 opened 1824, Records for this church are
Listed as St Peters Belper.
The church of St John was built abt 1250 chaplery to Duffield. Births and some deaths are recorded
But marriages would have been in Duffield.
Perhaps Elizabeth knew she was born in Heage hence the census entries, although I cannot find
Any.
