What happened to early parish registers of Mears Ashby, Northamptonshire
« on: Saturday 16 September 17 22:10 BST (UK) »
I have come to a halt in my research because the entries for this parish register, that exist, start in the 1660's. So does anyone out there know what happened to the earlier records?

Probably haven't survived

Or if you have only been checking on-line sources they may not have been digitised yet -- try contacting the Northamptonshre Record Office to see if they hold any earlier records

The list that NRO used to have on their website says that the PR's only start at 1670.

So the pre-Civil War book must have been lost.   :(   :(

It's not the only parish like that - there's several others.

Prawn Cocktail thanks for this. I believe there are other parishes in the same boat. For example  I know from dealings with Lichfield Record Office that the Wolverhampton records pre civil war were destroyed because of the civil war. I just wish the record offices actually were a bit more proactive in stating what is and isn't available and why. Saves a lot of frustration down the line and manages our expectations. I think I can close this now. Thanks
