1841, 1851 and 1861 Census look up please
« on: Monday 18 September 17 19:00 BST (UK) »
I want to find information on the family of Mary Ann Parrott born in Seven Oaks Kent in March Q of 1841.  I think the father may have been called James.  Other children born included Catherine 1845, Ellen 1847, Samuel 1838, John 1843, James 1850 and William 1852.  Any information would be really helpful
Thank you
Jenn

Thank you for trying to help Giggsy,
According to the marriage certificate of Mary Parrott her father was called James.  The later census returns (when she was married to John Redhead) state she was born in Sevenoaks in Kent circa 1842.   The GRO ref suggests she was born in 1841 in Sevenoaks.
I have hit a brick wall - although I was able to find her siblings by using GRO and referencing the mothers maiden name of Everest.  It is of course possible that her father normally used the name Samuel - but used his correct name of james on the wedding certificate .

The marriage was definitely Samuel Parrott (Parrett) to Maria Everest

One explanation for Mary calling her father James on the marriage certificate is perhaps that her father died when she was young and her mother remarried to someone called James and it is this name that she used.

You need to see if you can find the rest of her family in 1861 as in 1851 there is a Parratt family in Greenwich with a father James and mother Mary Ann so similar sounding families can easily get mixed up.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

I think this family living in Chelsea in 1861 is a more likely match for the Mary Parrott that marries John Redhead

James Parrott 46
Eliza Parrott 42
Mary Parrott 18
George Parrott 13
Daniel Parrott 11
Jane Parrott 9
James Parrott 6
Emma Parrott 4
Samuel Parrott 7/12

Thank you Giggsy and Davidft.  I think you could be right Davidft - the James Parrott in 1861 does seem a possibility.   Just surprised that each census return says Mary Redhead (nee Parrott) states her place of birth as Sevenoaks in Kent.
Thank you for all your help

Samuel & Maria Parrott and their family , including Mary born 1841 , all appear to have emigrated to Oregon in about 1853. There are numerous records of them which seem to confirm that. I think the family in Chelsea is more likely.
