James McLaughlin

James McLaughlin was born 1895 in Greenock, Renfrewshire.  He served as gunner with RFA in WW1 and returned to Greenock where in later years I am led to believe he was a member of parliament.  The only other fact known is he married a Mabel? Can someone please help with information.

Did James have children as the mother's name & m/s will be on their births?

When you say "The only other fact known is he married a Mabel?" can you give us any info. as to this being fact please?

The reason I ask is I don't see a marriage for both those names in the time frame I would expect i.e do you know how late in life they married?

Yes, I have looked for a marriage etc but could not find anything.  The information is from his daughter Patricia McLaughlin who sadly passed away in 2009.  I am helping Pat's daughter to search the family's history.  I appreciate that oral family history is not the best source but at this moment in time that is all I have to go on.

Do you know Patricia's approx year and place of birth.

I looked for info yesterday and  found a marriage to a Mabel in 1935 in ?Barnet but none in Scotland. It seemed a bit late but still possible.  Nothing on the MP front.

Did Pat die in Aberdeen? There is death with the year you mentioned:

Patricia McKenzie McLaughlan, aged 87. Death in Aberdeen, 2009.

It is the only one I can see with a surname close to McLaughlin (using wild cards). There is a corresponding birth for her in Aberdeen which makes me think it is not the same Patricia if the family you are looking at was based around Greenock 

I can't see a marriage that would fit in Scotland. Maybe England? A few show there.

As you have James "born 1895 in Greenock, Renfrewshire" & returning there it is possible to check the FREE Index using +/- 2 yrs for a death in that area & if not then expand to surrounding areas?

I don't envy that task with all the variants for that surname
