Looking for any more information on military career of Herbert Edward pennyfather born 1895 West Ham father Joseph. According to cwgc he was a private in 9th battalion royal Welsh fusiliers and died 24 March 1918. Any other info greatly appreciated

Your man's service record is on Ancestry if you have a sub.
It states he died while a POW, one of 446 men of the 9/Batt. killed,wounded or missing (this according to the 9/Batt. war diary) during the battle of Bapaume.
The war diary also on Ancestry gives a narrative of the battle.
He'd also been wounded previously in July 1916 with a GSW to the hand.
Immediately after this he was posted to the 9th. from the 18th. his original Batt.

Herbert E Pennyfather son of Joseph W Pennyfather born  10 March 1855 - Finsbury Middlesex England passed away 17 May 1935 - Walthamstow Essex.

Married Hannah Elizabaeth Buxton - 14 December 1878 Newington Surrey -  Hannah born 10 March 1855 - Finsbury Middlesex passed away 17 May1935 -  Walthamstow Essex England. Herbert was one of seven children born to this couple.
