Whither Crump?

(sounds like a place in Yorkshire!!).

I am chasing "George Crump" long serving butcher of Bridgnorth.

Born Bewdley, 1846.
He married Leah Starkey, 1873, she died in 1889.
In 1891 Census (5 Apr) he's in Bridgnorth, with daughters Ada (14) and Jessie (10).
7 Sep 1891 he marries Sarah Harrold (b1852).
Dec 3, 1891 an auction is held of his household effects, since he is "leaving the town".

Then George and Sarah Crump disappear from any record I can find.

Ada Crump marries Henry Jones in 1898, and in 1901 is in Wales, and Jessie Crump is living there too.

So - what happened to George and Sarah?

Sarah was 39 when she married so children are possible.
I have checked the GRO births for Crump's with MMN "Harrold", 1891-1900 and found none.

Hmm. There's a Welsh thing going on; George's son Robert Henry Crump, b1875 married a Mary Elizabeth Murray from Pontypridd, Flintshire, in 1896.

Looking at newspaper reports, he was a methodist preacher. Did he embark on some missionary work perhaps?

From the Bridgnorth Journal issue dated 2nd December 1893.
"Death of George CRUMP, age 48, a Butcher, Late of High Street, Bridgnorth. Died at his shop in Chester. Left Bridgnorth 3 years ago. Buried at Bridgnorth."

I can check for a headstone for George and Leah in Bridgnorth cemetery later in the week.

If it's the same family as Henry CRUMP, Plumber / Painter of Bridgnorth, then there is lots more local info'.

Wow - that's him all right. Where/how did you get access to the Bridgnorth Journal?

The BNA only has (bizarrely) 52 issues, weekly for 1856!!

Per the Probate Calendar he died on 26 November 1893. Address Rowton House, Rowton, Cheshire. Probate to widow Sarah.
