Burial in Devizes
« on: Tuesday 26 September 17 17:26 BST (UK) »
Elderly tailor, William Francis Greening, died Devizes in 1924 (quarter 3). The previous December he had attempted suicide (court case reported Jan 8th 1924 Wilts Times & Trowbridge Advertiser). Cannot find any record of his burial. Not sure whether his death was result of second suicide attempt. If so, where would he have been buried? No newspaper reports that I can find. Can anyone advise?

Did he live in Devizes previous to his death. The reason I ask is that the county insane hospital / asylum was at Devizes, he could have been an inmate when he died.

Thanks for burial info & note on hospital/asylum at Devizes. Will check those out.

Yes, Mr Greening worked in Devizes, as a tailor for C.H. Parsons (subsequently Parsons & Son) .. "sporting & hunt tailors & breeches makers", of 2 & 3 St John Street.

Roundway hospital [asylum] had it's own cemetery. The hospital was demolished and built on but the cemetery was left. Not sure if it still is there but this is what findagrave has to say about it;
