Can someone shed light on cause of death
« on: Wednesday 27 September 17 15:35 BST (UK) »
The attachment shows the death of one of my ancestors. I am struggling with the cause cited in the register. It seems to have been written as Philusis and was certified medically. What is it and what would have caused it? What is the significance of 4 months certified, if that has any significance?

It suspect it may be phthisis [tuberculosis], then a very common cause of death.

Whatever it was, it had been diagnosed as that 4 months before.

Hi,

It looks like phthisis, which was the name for tuberculosis back then.

Regards,
Josephine

I agree with Josephine and josey and the 4 months certified was the length of time since diagnosis.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

With so much agreement and contiguous posting of replies I will settle for the former name as being tuberculosis. Think we can close this then and a big thank you to all.
