Bethnal Green Workhouse Records
« on: Tuesday 03 October 17 22:24 BST (UK) »
Hello, My Great Great Aunt died in Bethnal Green Workhouse her name Jane Allar aged 20, does anybody know if there are records for this workhouse? I find it strange that her parents (silk weavers) and her siblings did not go to the workhouse, I would like to know how she came to be in there.
Hope somebody can help.

Hello - what year was that please?

Do you have the death certificate with a cause of death?  She may have been sick or had a baby.

Is she the Jane age 14 in 1861 with parents Thomas and Matilda?

I can't see a Jane Allar death age 20.

Nearest I can see is Jane Ann Aller Sep 1867 age 23 Bethnal Green
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Hello Milliepede
Thankyou for answering my question. I don’t have a death certificate as I am finding it difficult to track it down. Yes she is the daughter of Thomas and Matilda, I found that she died six years later in the workhouse from another members tree. That is all the information I can find at the moment so I was wondering whether anyone else could help me.

This looks the closest death registration if you wanted to take a chance on the certificate.
Possible her exact age wasn't known by the workhouse if they were the informants of the death.

Sep 1867 Bethnal Green
Aller Jane Ann age 23
Volume 1c

though it might be worth checking if there is another Jane about in 1861 whose death this could be before you spend any pennies.

Thank you Ray I have found the baptism, I am not sure what to do next. After looking at other members trees on Ancestry nobody apart from this one have found her death details, I could be looking for something that maybe was wrong!

Thanks Milliepede
I believe that may be a different Jane as the surname is with an A not E ALLAR. It could be a miss spelling I supposed.

Spelling mistakes were very common unfortunately, if the name was written as it sounded when spoken Allar and Aller are very similar.

I can't see another Jane about that could be her but another problem is the middle name Ann so it's a gamble.
