Looking for JEWELLS
« on: Friday 06 October 17 15:36 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on my 5th Great-grandmother THOMASINE JEWELL

married John Wilson on 27th Nov 1726 Upottery Devon and was buried 7th March 1779 at Upottery.  They had three children - Thomas 1727. John 1730. Lewis 1732.  All were baptised at Upottery.

However I have trawled the Upottery transcriptions and can find nothing for her birth/baptism.

I did find a John JEWELL bap 30th July 1738 - parents John and Susannah.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi there.

I'm afraid I don't have anything particularly specific for you on Thomasine, but there are some Jewells in my family tree from around the Buckland St Mary/Pitminster area. It seems they were relatively widespread around the Blackdown hills, so it's definitely worth looking at surrounding villages - particularly Luppit, Yarcombe and Cotleigh.

Best wishes

Thank you.  There are loads of little villages around the Upottery area.  I found two birth/bap dates for Thomasine - one lists Broadhembury but is a bit early and an Exeter date (which could cover any village in and around Exeter) 1695 but unfortunately doesn't list her father's name.
