Marriage for John Allan and Agnes
« on: Saturday 07 October 17 06:03 BST (UK) »
Trying to find a marriage for John Allan born c1776 in Carlisle, and  his wife is Agnes. I have no idea of the surname of Agnes. They had 2 children Robert born 1794 and Margaret born 1798 both born in Carlisle. Any help greatly appreciated. Maria :)

As the children were baptised at Annetwell Chapel, which was non conformist Scottish chapel, it may be that Agnes may be Scottish and the marriage took place somewhere in Scotland. Can't  see a baptism for John in Carlisle, do you know if/where he was baptised.

Perhaps you should investigate children of the 1794 marriage of John ALLAN to Ann FREELAND.

If they clash with "your" children then you may safely eliminate that marriage. If they fill gaps between yours, then you need to consider those parents.  In the days of illiteracy these mistakes can happen without anyone noticing.

John and Ann are still alive in the 1841 census, John aged 70.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Thank you Gan Yam and Geoff-E for taking the time to reply, I do not have a baptism for John, and also found the marriage to Ann Freeland, they had 3 children born 1805, 1807 and 1810. Also found a tree on Ancestry for this couple but only the one marriage. In Robert's baptism there is a surname for Agnes but for the life of me I just can't make out what the name is. I was not sure if I could add an attachment to see if anyone could figure out the name. I also found a John Allan in the 1841 census living by himself.
