Hi all,

I have a direct link to the Tyler line of Great Dunmow via Mary Tyler b.1818.  I have one sibling for her - Sarah Tyler b.1820.  Parents for the girls were John and Sarah Tyler, according to baptism records.  I haven't been able to find any further baptisms to a John and Sarah, nor a marriage for them.

If daughter Mary was the eldest, I'd assume that John and Sarah were born around 1795.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Many thanks,

Emma

[Edit]

I can find this family in 1841, but with Mary as 'wife', rather than Sarah.  Is there any record of Sarah passing away and John remarrying?

Mary Tyler, 50, Y
Sarah Tyler, 20, Y
Peter Tyler, 10, Y

I couldn't find a marriage for John, to either Mary or Sarah, in Gt Dunmow or in various surrounding parishes.

Looking at the baptisms and burials in Gt Dunmow I think that Sarah and Mary may be the same person, as there's an earlier baptism for parents John & Mary and there's no burial for a Sarah.

Assuming that it's the same John and Mary in 1861, as per 1841 at Star Lane, Mary's birth is c1788 Henham. Looking through the Henham baptisms there are few a possible matches, so no obvious leads. I couldn't find a marriage in Henham.

Thank you so much for posting all this information. I had wondered if Mary/Sarah were one and the same. Guess there's no real way of knowing...hopefully something may come to light further down the line.

I wonder where they married. Such a nightmare of a name, too - I've seen it transcribed as Tyler/Tiler/Tayler so far...

Thanks again - will have a more lengthy look tomorrow.

Regards, Emma
