Local BMD search...Wimbledon / Kingston
« on: Monday 09 October 17 19:05 BST (UK) »
Hallo out there

My ancestor was buried at Wimbledon St Mary on 4th October 1866 aged 47.
That's what the parish register tells me.
Wimbledon at this time would be part of the Kingston Registration District.

I would like to order a copy of the death certificate but I can't find the GRO index entry.

Would it be possible for anyone to check the local index ?
My ancestor was Francis Hewitt (male) ....very tricky spelling for both fore- and sur- names!

Burial was 4 Oct 1865 rather than 1866, was it not?

Have you ruled out the Francis Hewitt whose death aged 46 was registered in St George Hanover Square district in Dec qtr 1865?

Not everyone died at home.

Hi
Oops sorry for the typo, yes, 1865 is correct.

That entry isn't showing for me at BMD or GRO in spite of a 5 year search either way or a phonetic search on names.
What am I doing wrong?
I am not in the UK
But your found sounds promising!

Further info more than welcome!

it's on the GRO

HEWITT, FRANCIS       46
GRO Reference: 1865  D Quarter in SAINT GEORGE HANOVER SQUARE  Volume 01A  Page 186

You aren't making the mistake I've made before and putting the names in the wrong order are you?

Hi thankyou for your response.
No I wasn'r....but so easily done!....I think maybe it happens that when you try to narrow things down within the search function , it's all ignored. Ancestry does this all the time, zty fiddling around with a blanket search for Smith, hopeless!
Yes, I think this must be my man..and many thanks to you all for pointing me in the right direction

It is on Free BMD but the transcriber couldn't read if it was an E or an I so is indexed with both as an option.
