Parish registers online
« on: Wednesday 11 October 17 07:20 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out if the parish registers for Alston are accessible online anywhere.  I want to look up the details of the marriage of Richard Harker and Jane Harrison in 1738.  I'm hoping the register might give the name of Richard Harker's father.

Freereg has the transcript
St Augustine of Canterbury, Alston
30 Jul 1738
Richard Harker
Jane Harrison

No further details.  It would be unusual at this time for the entry to have any more information

Father's details were rarely listed in Parish Registers until 1837?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you.  Is there any way of finding out who someone's father was?  I've looked at various family trees and some say the father of Richard Harker was William Harker while others say his father was Adam Harker.  There are two possible birth records for Richard Harker but I don't know which one is correct.

Childrens' names may give an indication of parents' names.

I expect there are several threads on RootsChat on "naming patterns".  They will probably say something similar to this -

Thank you.  I'll have a look.  I have the will of Richard Harker so that might give some clues.
