The answer is yes. :)  I have several ancestor who were always described as of H M Customs and usually named the port to which they were attached.    Occasionally they were described of the Customs House at [name of port].

Cando  :)
Thanks Cando - in hindsight it was probably self explanatory but it's good to have confirmation.

Appreciate the burials details for Henry. It's probable there's a headstone for him at Bowenfels too.

Birth/baptism details are a bonus - thanks.  I see that his sister Jane (mentioned previously) was christened the same day although she was born 12 Aug 1811.

Jamjar

Thanks jamjar - the advertisement makes it a bit easier to pinpoint which Mary Ann Moore's death was wife of Henry W. Interesting that the funeral notice has his name as W. Henry Moore.

It looks like a copy of another will might be in order as well.

Cheers

Hi,

The Woollahra Library have a family history section and they have helped me in the past with family information and they might be helpful with Henry Walter Moore.

Reply#10 from CupofLife has this quote - sorry , this is a bit convoluted and may be a red herring

STURCH—At Brompton Park, England, In the 77th year of his age, of paralysis, W. Sturch, Esq., the beloved and only parent of Mrs. H. W. Moore, of Neutral Bay.

Free Bmd has the death of a William STURCH reg Kensington, Vol1a, p69, Dec qr 1859

According to an on-line tree, this William STURCH had a daughter Mary Ann, b abt 1830 who married Henry Walter MOORE, 26 September 1847 at the church of St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney.  Henry was a commercial traveller, both of full age, living in Stepney, her father William's occ: engineer and his father Jerome?: nurseryman.

I cannot see the couple in England and Wales census in 1851.

Edit to add: Jamjar (Reply #27) has this:

Thanks for that Judith

I had Henry & Mary Ann's marriage (from Ancestry) but had forgotten that he was a Commercial Traveller in UK. I found them in 1851 in Finsbury/Islington where Henry W Moore (age 38) was born Hackney (Commercial Trav.) and Mary Ann Moore (age 21) was born Lincolnshire. Interesting that she was supposed to be of full age when they married in 1847!

When Mary Ann died in 1905 she was reported to be 75 (ie born 1825)

I haven't checked original records yet but I'll follow up on the likelihood that Mary Ann's mother was nee DAY.

Thanks for the extra info.

Cheers
Di
