where is this place?
« on: Sunday 15 October 17 16:53 BST (UK) »
When my 4 * g grandfather enlisted into the army he said he was born in Neugrania in Co Limerick. When I put this into google it brings up nothing for this place. Is this spelt incorrectly or is there no such place? On the 1851 census it just says he was born in Ireland. He died in 1852. Does anyone have any idea what it could possibly be please?

Are you looking at a transcription or an original image.
If it's an original image I'd suggest snipping out the place name and a little more writing around it to get an idea of the hand writing and post it here.

Maybe Newgarden?

There's a list of Baronies, Parishes, Electoral Divisions and Townlands of County Limerick here:

Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

It's a parish not a townland, that makes a difference.
There is a John Ryall in Ballingarry parish in 1830 but that name doesn't look anything like Ballingarry
