Someone wrote a postem on FreeBMD on a person I search (19th century). The only thing you get from FreeBMD concerning the writer is the IP adress. How can I find this person?

As far as I am aware there isn't a way to contact the person who left the Postem.  FreeBMD has no connection to them.  Anyone can leave a message, and they don't have to register anywhere.

Sorry
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

From just an IP address, you may be able to determine the Internet Service Provider, and the approximate geographical location, of the person who left the postem, at the time they left it...

...but that's all.

Does the poster indicate that they may be a relation.  It is possible that like many of us they are posting information from a certificate they bought in error.

How about putting their name on here as a separate thread,or you could check the Surname interest table, just incase it does happen to be someone registered on Rootschat.

Good idea Carol. Once the name is the title of a thread here it will also show on a google search, should the postem poster look for the name again. But agree with rosie - I put details of all certificates I buy on freebmd postems, relation or not. I don't indicate whether the certificate belongs to a relation.

Occasionally I leave postems on Free BMD. One example below. I cannot say why they married twice but I would imagine someone complained about the Dublin marriage and made them marry again. Who complained I do not know but I am putting my money on the Brides mother.

1882: Albert Edward Acheson married Rosetta Maria Marshall July/September 1882, Dublin South, Ireland
and
Albert Edward Acheson married Rosetta Maria Marshall September Quarter 1883, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. Free BMD.

Brides parents living in Sheffield.

Thank you everybody, I don't know anything else about this postem except that is written in French , so I suppose by a french person.
The person concerned was Caroline Godfrey, who married an English man in Paris (English Embassy 1888) and died in France .

And, of course, you need to know if it's a static IP address or a dynamic IP address! ;D

Most businesses have static IP addresses - they never change.

Most home users have dynamic IP addresses - they are liable to change.
