DNA re. Robert Williams born Llandudno 1813
« on: Monday 23 October 17 15:49 BST (UK) »
I am trying to clear up a mystery in my family tree relating to a Robert Williams (1813-1875) from Llandudno who spent most of his working life in Liverpool and died back home and was buried in Llanrhos Church Cemetery. His parents were a William Williams and Margaret and he seems to have had a sister Jane born in 1815.  He was married to an Elizabeth Baylis from Maryport in Cumbria and had several children one of whom may have been my late husband's great grandparent, as my husband's grandfather Henry is found living with this Williams family in 1881 where he is recorded as a grandson although he may have arrived in the family as the offspring of a stepdaughter. I am wondering if there are any descendants of this Williams family either from a Llandudno or Liverpool branch who could help establish Henry's bloodline e.g. there may be someone who has had an Ancestry DNA test who could be found in the list of DNA matches there for our daughter. Any information would be welcome.

Hello and welcome to Rootschat  :)

I don't relish your search with a name like Williams, particularly with the Welsh connection!

Since you have 1881 census details it may be worth your while inputting them on LostCousins.com.  You might be lucky and get a "hit" to someone who shares your late husband's Victorian ancestors.  Read the latest newsletter here:  https://www.lostcousins.com/newsletters2/lateoct17news.htm, particularly the para headed "Do you know any beginners?".

Unless you know the lineage of any of your daughter's DNA matches it will be difficult to work out where the connection (if any) might be, but if you want to go the DNA route I would suggest getting a test done yourself so you can at least rule out your daughter's maternal matches.  And don't forget the traditional paper trail route - baps and the like.  DNA isn't a replacement for these, despite what the advertisements suggest.

Jane :-)

Thanks for the advice. Most of the possible research on our ancestors has been done, and I too have had a DNA profile so that I can see which contacts, if any, relate specifically to my daughter's paternal bloodline. I don't think it should be too difficult to work out family Links in combination with known family history and trees. Janette.
