Romes
« on: Tuesday 24 October 17 00:43 BST (UK) »
I have traced back to my 4x great grandfather  which was a George Roome..  his kids eventually taking the name Rome..George who was married to Ann Purdie in 1795 in Canonbie ( the only date ihave for him) had 6 kids, 5 boys and 1 girl..  I have found the death places of 3 of those kids william, arthur and george.. David lived, married and brought up his own kids  in Troqueer and after i visited Troqueer Parish felt very disapointed not finding anyone. I also believe the other two kids of george and ann, named michael and janet james were born in troqueer..possibly died in infancy as no other dates or census with them on.. Im looking for the resting place of these people.. could it be dumfries, carlisle.. or somewhere else...birth dates for michael is 1805 and janet james 1812..
Fathers side Rome, Roome,  (Carlisle, Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire), Boden, Gardiner( Glasgow), Russell( Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Lanarkshire) Drysdale..
Mothers side Macmillan, Hardie, Purves, Williamson all Lanarkshire

Hi Erome, and welcome to Rootschat!

Is there any chance there might be one more daughter in the family?  There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of George Roome's in the records, so I thought this might be him, but he would need another daughter:

From The Newcastle Journal 26 May 1832

On the 19th inst. at St. John-Lee, near Hexham, by the Rev.
Mr. Lee, Mr. William Hall, schoolmaster, of Greenhead, Gilsland,
to Jessy, eldest daughter of Mr. George Roome, of Franksfield,
Dumfries
.

Thankyou for your replies..  re garstonite.  I have ruled out the janet grierson as her father was a james rome...as for william janets brother he married a margaret kirkpatrick on the 28 jan 1816 in troqueer..  this is where the whole family was living at this time.. David the brother of william also got married here and raised a family in troqueer while authur and william all siblings ended up in Carlisle And George another brother ended up in Kilmarnock...

I have a feeling only way im going to progress is if I find the stones of ann and George Rome parents.  Its v. Frustrating..
