Fanny Sneath born Stamford c.1860-1865?
« on: Sunday 29 October 17 14:57 GMT (UK) »
I'm having difficulty with finding any trace of "Fanny Sneath" in birth/baptismal records. She married John Alexander Brown, 14/4/1886, City of London and bore 2 children, James Alexander 1886-1887 and Catherine Grace 1887-1978. The 1891/1901/1911 census returns all have Fanny born Stamford, Rutland, but GRO birth records do not appear to help although I have been misled by Ann Feary Sneath who appears as Ann Fanny Sneath in 1881 census but she marries another, I think!

I'd very much appreciate a bit of help, please.

John Alexander Brown appears to have died before 1911 census and if anybody could pinpoint which year...1907 or 1910, that, too, would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I wonder if she could be the Ann Weed Sneath born Dec.qtr. 1863 Stamford?
Census shows she was the daughter of Henry Sneath and Elizabeth Weed - mother died 1874 and in 1881 Ann is working as a servant - after this I can't find her so did she become 'Fanny'?

Thanks all for the pointer towards Ann Weed Sneath and for the probate info that I missed.

I'll try for more marriage details and that might corroborate...or not.

Nothing appears on-line I can find for the 1886 Marriage so you will have to get the 1886 M/C to confirm her Fathers name/occp.

The MC doesn't give too much info apart from father, Henry, Farm Servant/Steward; this might indicate Henry Sneath whose first wife was Elizabeth Weed, thence Ann Weed Sneath = "Fanny" Sneath...whose birth varies from 1861 to 1864 on census returns from 1891/1901/1911...as for witnesses: Charles Mansell & Alfred A Hunt? One might have thought her "Weed" middle name might have made things more obvious. Death records for a Fanny Brown might help, but which one should I choose to throw more cash to GRO? 1925? Thanks again to all for your help.
