Cheriton Road Cemetery, Folkstone
« on: Wednesday 01 November 17 01:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for the grave of my great grandmother whose name was Mary Ann Murton who is buried in Cheriton Road Cemetery.  She was born in 1851 and died 8th Feb 1918. She is buried in Section A, Grave No. 508, Interment record 1478.  On her grave record it says she died in York House, Cheriton Gardens but her body was brought from 8 Brockman Road, Folkstone.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi zodiac88 and welcome to RootChat. Still relatively new here myself.

As Rosie99 says, you already have the type of info that most people are looking for.

Can you be more specific about what help you need, e.g. headstone picture (because you might live a long way away and can't visit), help with locating the plot within the cemetery (because you've been there and can't find it), etc.

Hi all,
Sorry for being a bit vague but I only found this site very early this morning after searching all evening for my great grandmothers final resting place.
I live in Dartford so I will visit her grave if I can find exactly where in the graveyard it is and if there is a gravestone to mark it. I realise that some older graves were never marked but I am hoping hers is.
I am just hoping that if someone lives close to the cemetery that they could possibly check this for me, as I know from my research into WW1/2 graves even when you know the grave ref. it is not always easy to find a grave in a big cemetery.
Thank you all for your help and I will return the favour if anyone needs any help with finding a grave local to me.   Cheers, Colin.

I have Kent connections but I don't live in the area anymore so can't help out with practical action. However, here's some info & advice.

As for 1) whether there is a headstone, and 2) how to find the plot within the cemetery, I've always found that the best advance preparation is to e-mail or phone the local cemetery team. I've had so much helpful advice from various teams around the country.

https://www.shepway.gov.uk/community/births-marriages-and-deaths/funerals

"The Business Support team are responsible for  the administration of cemeteries and interments. You can view the plans and burial registers for all cemeteries at the Council's offices."

If there is a headstone, you might want to take a soft brush and bucket/bowl with you when you go. (I've never been to a cemetery that didn't have a tap.) From personal experience I can tell you that if you want to clean muck off a headstone, pocket tissues are not the answer.

Good luck.

Hi
Cheriton Road Cemetery from Dartford
M20 to junction 12
3rd exit from roundabout and head straight on through two sets of traffic lights.
After you go through the second set of lights about 500 yards, lay by on right hand side right in front of the entrance

Colin - excuse me if you already know this, but something often missed by new members is that you don't get access to the PM (private message) features of RootsChat until you've made three posts. It's an anti-spam thing. At the time of writing you have made two. Do another reply to this thread and you should then have access to private messaging to contact Nigel. Cheers.
