Honor Grenfell
« on: Sunday 05 November 17 04:56 GMT (UK) »
14 May 1827 to Thomas Walters - St Just in Penwith, Cornwall - looking for information on Honor Grenfell   She was buried 4 November 1842 St Just in Penwith Husband Thomas Walters died 1841.
children of Thomas and Honor - Thomas b and d 1827, Jane b 1829 - Jane is my connection so trying to trace backwards.   Jane married 1848 to William Roberts Eddy and they travelled to Australia 1849
Think I found Thomas, Honor and Jane Walters (Watters0 1841 census at Casnkey? St Just - I have always thought this was the family, however just noticed on Jane Eddy (nee Walters) death certificate in Australia says mother Rose Wall - which doesn't make sense to me. Any suggestions or clues would be good.
Is there some way to get more details about the 1848 marriage as it might show parents perhaps ............... Alison

The informant on Jane's death certificate obviously thought her mother's name was Rose WALL (and father Thomas WATERS) - Vic BDM reg no 13416.

Do you have any other information that suggests her mother was Honor GRENFELL?

I have Honor Grenfell with (Rose) in brackets as a note - I am thinking Rose Wall is a transcription error for Rose Walters as that would have been her married name
I made a mistake in my earlier post - I am looking for details of the marriage of Thomas Walters and Honor Grenfell 1827.   Are there any burial records that might help Honor Walters was buried 4 Nov 1842 ST Just-in-Penwith ........... Alison

Do you have Jane's death cert? It should contain both parents' names and place of birth (if known by the informant) - just to confirm  ;) Usually the Vic BDM index shows mother's maiden name, not married name (if known)

Thanks for the info - interesting witness as a nephew of Honor Grenfell (James Grenfell) married Mary Ann Bennetts.

Don't have copy of death certificate to confirm the name Rose Wall ............. Alison

Jane married as Jane Waters, her death shows father as Thomas Waters, and in 1841 at Madron, Cornwall (where she married) there is a 13 year old Jane Waters who is a servant in Madron.   Surely this is more likely to be your Jane?

I realise it's not helping finding her family but thought I ought to point this out.

burial record for Honor 4 Nov 1842 has surname Walters, abode Boscaswell

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01l08/

burial for Thomas Walters 23 June 1841 has same abode

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01l09/

Boscaswell is also the abode given on Jane's baptism which shows Thomas as a miner, same as 1841 census and the 1848 marriage cert.

1841 census has them at Carnkey, the couple are a decent match for the ages at burial, Walters, Watters and Waters are common variants.
