Could some please help me find out where Gunner Robert Titterington 690425 from the 3rd. East Lancs BDE RFA  was in France.

He was wounded and discharged  8.5.17 from 13 Gen Hospital to England on the S S Denis. This is all I know.

The brigade was one of 42 Division's RFA units who, in May 1917 were in the Havrincourt/Epehy area which at that time was relatively quiet. One has to assume he was wounded some time before the early May date you have given as he would have passed through the casualty chain which takes a finite time.  Another complication is that the three batteries were often (as was normal) moved away from one another to suit the operations of the moment.

I haven't yet found an entry for him in the war diary which does, unusually, name the casualties but I don't find his name.   However, C Battery spent a few days away from the other batteries and wrote their own diary for the period.  They had 6 casualties, un-named, from enemy artillery fire on 29 April which may be it.

Thank you so much for the information, very much appreciated.

I have read the information again and don't know if this helps or not:

10.2.17 posted to 291 Bde RFA
Place of casualty field -  date of casualty 7.4.17. Sorry I don't have any other information that tells me where in France he was.

That's exceedingly useful.  Forget everything in my first post which was predicated on him being still in the 3rd East Lancs Brigade.

He is now in 291 Brigade supporting 58th Division who were fighting the Battle of Bullecourt. The war diary tells us, without names, that D Battery of the brigade had 6 men wounded by shell fire on 17 May 1917.

 Back soon with a map.

Specifically the second ballet of Bullecourt which started on 4 May http://catnaps.org/bulle/battles.html#first  (Correction - it was 4 men not 6)

The batteries of 291 Brigade were to the south and west of the village of Ecoust Saint Mein south east of Arras.  On the map link below the brigade HQ was in the square 17 where the triangle of roads is on the trench map, right where the Route A1 sign is today.  The road running towards Ecoust St Mein the Rue de Mory runs in a valley.  The battery positions were in this valley supporting the infantry fighting towards Bullecourt at the top right of the map.  That is as near as one could get to where he was on the day he was injured.
