Is his DoB on his Attestation Papers & does it match his BC?

yes his dob matches his birth cert -annie
yes there is other info that confirms that its certainly him -debra
yes  i have checked marriage cert says batchlor -antony
nellie cant of been the next of kin she didnt live there with him in poplar cottage at that time. i will order her birth cert im pretty sure she is a nellie tho not a ellen and i dont think she could be ellen moulden at that time she had become a cooper- Annie

and if they have 1946 electoral roll i could check would be great because his war years are 1942-1947 then reserve 1947 to 1951

As Antony has suggested...the NOK may have been his Common Law wife?

This may now be irrelevant but if she'd been known as Ellen regardless of what's on her BC then it would do no harm Robert giving as to what he thought was asked regarding her name i.e. Ellen M Cooper would have been acceptable.

He is 18 years old, likely quite nervous, but delighted to have got into the raf, as the alternative was to be called up into the army as cannon fodder,

If someone had asked me at the age of 18 who was my next of kin I would not have a clue what they meant :)

I think this is no more than a simple mistake or misunderstanding.

There is no legal requirement for the status of a NoK, it can be anyone you choose as it's only a 'who would we get in touch with' in the event of something happening.

If he has named the person & given her the status of 'wife' then he may have been living with her & referred to her as his wife which would not have been questioned.

so its thought that he had a girl friend during the war who was an irish nurse my aunt said it was pretty serious. but there is no records supporting he was married so i think she could of been B M "cooper"

its thought that my gandmas dad arrange the cottage possilby rented it and apparently. robert lived there shortly with is legal wife (grandma )in1951  before moving to the family home

im just trying to put it all togther
